Bhatkal: 12-year-old boy feared drowned, two others rescued

Bhatkal, Dec 24: One youngster is feared drowned while two others were rescued at Tengungundi beach here on Saturday December 24.

Ratan Irappa Naik, Nagendra Tipayya Naik and Puneet Kamlakar Moger, all aged 12, were carried away by the currents when they went to play at the beach after lunch.

It is learnt that there was a puja programme at Ratan's house, to which Puneet and Tippayya were also invited. After lunch, the three boys decided to go to the beach.

All three were pulled away by the strong currents. Luckily, a few fishermen who were on a boat noticed two boys struggling in the water and rushed to their rescue. With the help of the locals, Puneet and Tippayya were brought to safety, while Ratan went missing.

The boys are students of 8th standard at Tengungundi Government School.

After initial treatment in Bhatkal Government Hospital, they were shifted to Kundapur.

Search operation is on for Ratan.

Ratan is the only son of Irappa Naik.

A case has been registered in Bhatkal rural police station.
