Udupi: Hemalatha Takes Over as DC from Ponnuraj

Udupi, Jan 28: Hemalatha who was recently appointed as the new deputy commissioner, took over the reins of the office here on Sunday, January 27. The former Udupi DC Ponnuraj has been transferred to Ramanagar district.
 
About Hemalatha: Originally from Tamil Nadu, Hemalatha completed her graduation in arts from the Madurai University and in the year 2000 went on to pass the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) examination. She has been most actively involved in rendering her service to the district. She began her career in administrative services as an assistant commissioner of Kundapur.
 
Moreover she has also held many distinguished posts, one being that of general manager of Krishna Meldande Yojane in Bagalkote. Last year, she was even promoted as district ZP CEO. Speaking to media persons, she informed that she will continue to carry out the works started by her husband Ponnuraj, the former DC of the district and assured that she will provide transparency in administration of the district.

Further, she even talked about a “paper-less” administration and how steps would be taken to strengthen the gram panchayats. An assurance was also given about the development of Manipal-Udupi road, that it would be undertaken very soon. Hemalatha also informed that the tender process for DC complex in Rajathagiri in Manipal has been completed and work on the same would be completed within a year.
