Udupi, Dec 29: A release from youth empowerment and sports department said that aqua adventure sports centres are being set up initially at Malpe in the district and Murudeshwar in Uttara Kannada district at a cost of two crore rupees.
This is in tune with the announcement made by the chief minister in his budgetary speech for 2016-17 that aqua adventure sports centres would be set up in association with Jungle Lodges and Resorts in coastal area at a total cost of six crore rupees.
The department has already been operating adventure activities in land, water and air along with General Thimmaiah National Adventure Academy.
On December 26, the department gave its in-principle nod for setting up aqua adventure sports cenres in six beaches, Sadashivagad, Murudeshwar, Malpe, Maravanthe, Sasihithlu and Panambur.
As a first step, these centres would be set up during this year at Malpe and Murudeshwar by spending two crore rupees, the release explained.
