Puttur, Dec 30: The lifeless body of an aged woman who was staying in a rented house at Karadka Compund in Haradi in the town on Bolwar-Uppinangady road, was found on the night of Thursday December 29. Apparently she was killed by someone after restricting her movement with cloth.
The deceased was Vinodini Kamath (77). She was living in this house alone since the last eight years. Her only daughter, Maitri, lives in Bengaluru with her husband.
After her daughter was married to a man from Bengaluru, Vinodini started staying alone in a rented house owned by Karadka Krishnaiah Ballal. The family members of Ballal peeped into her house through the window after noticing that foul smell was emanating from inside the locked house of Vinodini on Thursday.
After the police got the information, they arrived at the spot and conducted investigation. Vinodini's limbs were tied up with bandage cloth. On the face of it, it looks like she was murdered by suffocating her. Actual cause of death would be known after the postmortem. The body of the lady was found lying very near to the door of her house.
The door of the almirah inside the house was found wide open, indicating that the lady was murdered by robbers. There is a possibility that she was killed for ornaments and cash. Actual value of things lost would be known after the arrival of the lady's daughter from Bengaluru.
As per information, Vinodini, who owned a house near Bannur Colony here, had sold her house and started to stay with daughter at Bengaluru. However, her asthma problem aggravated there, as a result of which she came back eight years ago and started staying alone in a rented house. Her daughter visited her once in a couple of months, it is said.
Police of town station here have registered a case and begun investigation.
