Mandya, Jan 2 : A JD(S) worker was hacked to death on the night of Saturday, December 31 near here. Political rivalry is said to the reason for the murder.
Harish alias Gunda (32), son of Rajegowda of Marukanahalli near KR Pet taluk is the person deceased.
Harish was hacked to death by five men when he was celebrating New Year with his friends.
Four JD(S) workers have been reportedly murdered in the district in the past 10 days.
As soon as the news of Harish’s murder spread in the area, the houses of Rakshith and Yogesh who were allegedly part of the gang that attacked the JD(S) worker were torched. Windows and doors of their houses were damaged creating panic.
Police heightened security at the village when the tension prevailed. IGP (Southern range) Bijay Kumar Singh, Mandya SP Ravi D Channannavar and other police officials with personnel visited the village.
A Harish’s relative alleged that the murder was carried out at the behest of a Congress leader.
Recently, JD(S) workers Kumar of Benamanahalli in Malavalli taluk and Nandeesh and Muthuraj of Thopanahalli in Maddur taluk were allegedly murdered over political enmity.
