Mangalore, Jan 31: “I have attended so many functions in my life as a chief guest, but I am most proud to attend this function as this school shaped me during my early years”- said B Abdul Khader, former mayor of the Mangalore City Corporation.
Khader was speaking at the combined inaugural function of the post-centennial Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Rosario High School and Silver Jubilee celebrations of Rosario English Higher Primary School at Rosario Cultural Hall on Thursday January 31.
“Fr Blasius D’Souza was the headmaster during those days. We were a shivering group, when he was leaving for our school from the church. It is because of his blessings, that we have today grown up as prominent citizens in the city,” he said touchingly.
Earlier, inaugurating the function Kodandaram, the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Mangalore city in his speech informed that there are 186 schools operating under his jurisdiction. Out of which only a few of them are imparting quality education to the students and Rosario School is one such school which imparts quality education to the students, he pointed out.
Rosario School has a vast history of 150 years, producing thousands of proud citizens for the society. The school should begin professional education in the fields of technology and medicine with the help of old students, he advised.
Also on the occasion a poor students’ fund was launched. Entrepreneurs R C Rodrigues, Sadashivdas Pandeshwar, Fr Alwin Serrao, principal of Rosario P U College and Sr Josephine F Moras, headmistress of St Ursula Higher Primary School were present on the occasion.
Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza, secretary of Catholic Board of Education (CBE), presided over the function. Fr Stany Goveas, correspondent of the institutions, welcomed the gathering. Aloysius D’Souza, headmaster of the high school, delivered the introductory remarks, while Jeanette Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
