Udupi: District Wakf advisory committee presents annual report

Udupi, Jan 5: “A total of 398 notified properties have been identified within the extent of 1,56,90,312.00 of acres in five constituency. Out of it, Udupi has 29, 46834.00 square feet of land and number of properties are 149,” said chairman of district Wakf advisory committee Nakwa Yahya Saheb in a press meet at Malpe on Wednesday, January.

“Cases pertaining to misuse of Waqf properties, encroachment and illegal transfer were submitted to the deputy commissioner and chief executive officer, Karnataka State Board of Waqf on February 23, 2015.” 

“According to district Waqf survey, Udupi district has 129 institutions and 270 properties out of which registered properties have been identified for second survey. DC has instructed all the revenue officials including Tahsildar of five constituencies to complete the survey of encroached land and illegal transfer before April 2015.”

“As many as 42 masjids and 63 properties have been newly registered in 2014 -16. Gazette notification will be done in next 10 years. As many as 52 committees and 28 bylaws have been formed in 129 Wakf institutions in the district,” he said.

Nakwa Yahya Saheb added: “The government has released Rs 39.50 lac grants to Waqf institutions from 2014-15 to 2016-17. MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake released Rs 10 lac from Wakf grant for Kota and Kanyana masjid was granted Rs 5 lac by MLA Halady Shrinivas Shetty.”

Out of 129 Wakf institutions about 79 institutions have furnished the applications for claiming honorarium to Pesh Imam and Mouzens working under respective mosques. Accordingly 79 Pesh Imam and 66 mosques are recommended for the sanction. An honorarium of Rs 31,000 to Pesh Imam and Rs 2500 to Mouzens will be given.

Nakwa further informed that cases at the court on land issues were being audited. 12 cases were solved so far. Hoode and Kandlur masjid dispute is being heard by the Wakf board.

During the press meet, the hajj application form was released by the chairman.

A K Yusuf Kundapur, vice president, Abdurahman Razwi Kalkatta, Ashfak Ahmad, Rahmathulla Kukkundur, Abdul Khadar Athradi, Ubedulla Nadvi Kandlur, Ameer Hamzi, Khaleel Ahmad and other members were present.
