Mangaluru, Jan 6: National Highways Special Land Acquisition Officer, Gayathri Nayak, who was caught receiving bribe on Wednesday January 4, has been admitted in hospital.
Corruption Bureau (ACB) had arrested her on corruption charges after she was caught receiving bribe at her office at Mini Vidhana Soudha here. Her office assistant Thukrappa was also arrested with her.
After the arrests, both the accused were produced in court on Wednesday evening. Before that they were subjected to mandatory medical check-up. Both were declared well. Once the court remanded the accused to judicial custody, ACB sleuths dropped them to district prison.
Gayathri Nayak
Gayathri, who was perfectly well till then, complained that she was experiencing heavy head ache and giddiness. The prison officials rushed her to Wenlock hospital. She was in ICU till Thursday morning and then was shifted to a ward.
The arrests were made after a person named Yogish from Kasargod had complained that Gayathri Nayak had demanded bribe from him. Yogish had complained that Gayathri had demanded bribe from the compensation of Rs 17.5 lac he received from the government. He had already paid her Rs 1.3 lac.
It is also said that Gayathri had demanded bribe from others who had received compensation from the government. So far none of them has complained.
Gayathri Nayak was Tahasildar in Kundapur before she was made National Highways Special Land Acquisition Officer. She had additional responsibility as executive officer at Pilikula Nisargadhama for some time.
It is not known when Gayathri will be discharged from hospital. High profile accused people complaining about sickness has become common these days. In most cases, it is a plan to avoid prison and remain in the comforts of a hospital.
