Mangaluru, Jan 7: Muslim community welcomed and served cold drinks and water at Masthikatte junction in Ullal on Friday January 6 to Hindu devotees who were walking on Horedibbana procession in view of Brahmakalashotsava in Ullalthi Dharma Arasara temple.
The Brahmakalashotsava and Dharma Nadavali festival are being celebrated from January 6 to January 12.
Ullal Umamaheshwari temple managing trustee A J Shekar set in motion the Horekanike procession that started at Jai Veeramaruthi gym near Thokkottu over bridge.
More than 1000 Hindus from temples and organizing activists in the district participated in the procession by walk and vehicles. More than 50 Muslims lovingly welcomed the procession at Masthikatte junction and served cold drinks and water to all those who were in the procession.
The rare moment sent an excellent message to the society in Ullal, which is known as a communally sensitive.
Former Ullal municipal council member Usman Kallapu who led the distribution of soft drinks said that both the communities live together in Ullal. “The distribution of soft drinks is a proof of it. It will be a lesson to a handful of people who disrupt peace in the vicinity. We were together in the past and will remain so in the future too,” he said.
Municipal council member Mustafa, local Fairoz, Adrama, Monu, Ahmed Bava Kottara and others distributed soft drinks.
