Udupi: 'Noorondu Nenapu Dinavu Manadalli' brings alive charm of yesteryear music

Udupi, Jan 7: 'Noorondu Nenapu Dinavu Manadalli', an exclusive musical night by M R Vijay Shankar in association with The Expressions enthralled the audience at Maryknoll High School Grounds, Barkur here recently.

Shankar, an accomplished singer from Barkur led the evening with famed lead singer Junior S Janaki and Meera Kamath from Kundapur. Kannada and Hindi film songs of yesteryears rendered on the ocassion memerised the gathering. Morvin Quadras, Kuwait, winner of GVOM Season 4, touched the hearts of music lovers with his melodious voice.

Kishoo Barkur, Naveen Dias, Franklin Fernandes, Gration D’Silva and others sang various songs on the occasion.

The musical evening kicked off with Shankar singing the epic Kannada song 'Ninade nenapu dinavu manadalli'. Other songs from the golden era like 'Omme Ninnannu Kanthumba', 'Onde ondu aaseyu', 'Naliva Gulabi Huve', 'Na ninna mareyalare', 'Elliruve manava kaaduva rupasiye', Hindi songs like 'Ye sham masthani', 'Gaatha rahe mera dil', 'Ye dosti', 'Dilbar mere', 'O hansini', 'Tere mere beech me' and many more were rendered by other singers.

Rib-tickling comedy skits performed by The Expression group members led by Alwyn Andrade, Prakash Shetty, Stephen Lewis and Sujatha Andrade kept the audience in splits. International famed Avinash Kamath added flavour to the musical night with his charming compering.

Ace Kannada lyricist Jayanth Kaikini and his wife Smitha Kaikini who witnessed the entire programme, wholeheartedly appreciated the efforts of the singers and artistes.

Fr Valerian Mendonsa, parish priest, St Peter's Church, Barkur graced the occasion.

Kaikini and Fr Mendonsa felicitated singer Shankar and the compere Kamath on behalf of The Expression team.

Naveen Dias, president of The Expressions, welcomed gathering, while Kishoo Barkur, convener, delivered the vote of thanks.

The musical night turned out to be a memorable one and concluded as one of the best treats ever offered to music lovers.

The Expressions team is a group of like-minded friends who are providing platform to many talented artists to showcase their talents on stage. The team is conducting various programmes from the past 17 years.
