Mangalore, Feb 3: Saturday February 2 was a day many Mangaloreans enjoyed to the hilt. The second day of the beach festival at Panambur here saw young and old alike take a dip in the Arabian sea or challenge its waves with their boats.
The swimming competition attracted a lot of partcipants who made most of the opportunity of enjoying a swim in the cold waters. The crowds cheered as the participants pushed their way to the finish. Among the winners were R Gagandeep in the under-14 category, Nishant Mallya in under-19 and Sanketh Bengre in open category. Shilpa Bengre was the only female participant in the competition.
The boat race was another favourite with the visitors. Those with a soft spot for adventure sports took up their oars and boats to out-do each other in the fun-filled event. Some were overthrown by the waves, some struggled to keep pace but no one was without a smile on the face.
Even the creativity geniuses came to the fore with sand sculpting event. Participants came up with some unique designs that reiterated the coastal region's power of imagination! The golden sands took a whole new meaning at the end of the event.
Twenty-five women's teams from the across the district got a chance to test their skills and stamina in the volleyball and throwball events. The compettion was crowd-puller as visitors cheered and appluaded each point lost and gained.
The evening was more sober with a spiritual programme 'Satsang' by the city's Art of Living team followed by cultural programmes by artistes of different communities.
