Bengaluru, Jan 10: Taking advantage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s flagship scheme, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided to give free LPG stoves and regulators to all below the poverty line (BPL) families for receiving cooking gas connections under the Central schemes.

Karnataka’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader launched the online system of applying for APL and BPL ration cards in Bengaluru on Monday. He said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also holds the finance portfolio, has agreed to release money for free distribution of LPG stoves and regulators.

Three lakh families have submitted applications seeking LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme.

The cost of each stove is Rs. 1,000, the minister said.

Apparently, the Congress government in Karnataka is keen on winning over all the poorer and dalit sections of the society, especially the women, as well as the farmers and rural people by implementing several schemes aimed at meeting their day-to-day requirements starting with the Anna Bhagya scheme for distribution of foodgrains.

The student community as well as the dairy farmers have also benefitted from the government’s largesse.
