Kundapur, Feb 4: The annual day celebrations of St Don Bosco Tech and the Feast day of St John Bosco were celebrated at Trasi beach here recently.
As part of the celebration an inter-school folk dance competition and inter-parish film dance competitions were held in which about 10 schools and 7 parishes took part. There was a large crowd all through the evening waiting for winners to be declared.
Stanita Lewis a student of classical dancer and exponent of Bharatanatyam was the chief guest for the occasion. Addressing the gathering and the participants she gave an inspiring message on the beauty and discipline of dance as an art.
Fr Ralin D’Souza SDB (director of social communications, DBAC- Benaulim Goa) was the chief judge for the occasion. Stella Maris high school and Christ the King Parish Youth, Trasi were the winners in their respective categories.
The feast day began with holy Eucharist which was celebrated by director of ICYM Mangalore Diocese Fr Anil D’Souza. In the evening there was a hilarious Kannada comedy drama ‘Suicide Sundara’ by the Muru Muthu Drama Troupe.
The students of the Institute presented well-orchestrated song and dance items, along with a thought provoking one–act Kannada drama. Fr Denis Moras Prabhu (vicar general of the Mangalore diocese) was the chief guest for the occasion and gave away the Institute awards to the students. The rector of the Institute Fr Kinley D’Cruz SDB welcomed the mammoth crowd on the occasion and re-affirmed the commitment of the Institute towards serving the needy, poor and disadvantaged youth of the neighbourhood.
Now into the 9th year of its existence, Don Bosco Tech, Trasi continues to serve the needy and disadvantaged youngsters of the region under the banner of Don Bosco. It runs non-formal technical courses for dropouts in auto electrical, diesel mechanic, electronics, A/C and refrigeration, welding, junior chef and computers.
