Beltangady, Jan 10: Taking a firm step towards realization of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plans to make India a cashless society, students of SDM College, Ujire here descended on the streets to create awareness on Digital India and transaction through cashless means.
The awareness campaign, taken up by the students of commerce and business management of the college, saw students visiting a number of shopkeepers and business establishments to explain to them the concept of cashless transactions and urged them to install card payment machines for customers.
The campaign was held with the blessing of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerandra Heggade and with guidance from Harshendra Kumar.
As many as 76 trained students, 700 volunteers and 21 lecturers participated in the campaign.
Nearly 2,000 citizens and business establishments were approached. The pro-people campaign, emphasizing convenience to citizens in doing business, and urging participation of common man in the development of the country, received much appreciation from the public.
