Sullia, Feb 5: Union minister of state for road transport K H Muniyappa arrived at Kukke Sri Subramanya Temple near here on Monday February 4 to pay obeisance to the temple deity.

Later, speaking to media persons, he said that Rs 61 crore has been released by the Central Road Fund (CRF), in order to fully asphalt Sakleshpur – Shiradi – BC Road, a stretch of Mangalore – Bangalore NH 48.

He also said that a section of Shiradi Ghat will be concreted to maintain quality and the works will be executed by state National Highway authority.  The delay in executing the works was attributed to the monsoon season last year. The work on Shiradi Ghat will be completed ahead of the monsoon this year, he added.

Deputy commissioners and police officers of both Dakshina Kannada and Hassan districts were directed not to allow any heavy vehicles on Shiradi Ghat stretch of NH 48, for two months while the light vehicular traffic was not hindered. The funds have been allocated for executing the road works without upsetting the aids to the state.

Moreover, he said that union railway minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and union minister of state for railways, R Velu, were urged to set right the injustice caused to Kannadigas in gaining employment with Indian railways. The day time train services between Mangalore – Bangalore will resume after the monsoon season this year, he said.

Bisle Gowda, chief executive engineer of state NH department, Ningayya, chief executive officer of Sri Subramanya Temple were present.

Mangalore Bureau Adds:

Mangalore, Feb 5: Shiradi Ghat, which is under repair now, will be made motorable 15 days before the beginning of monsoons, said K H Muniyappa, union minister of state for road transport.

Speaking at a press meet here on Monday, February 4 he said that the repair works of Shiradi Ghat are going on at a fast pace so that the road could be opened for public use, he added.

He further said that the contractors have been asked to speed up the four lane work which is going on between B C Road and Suratkal.

The four lane work has been delayed because of the delay in acquisition of land, delay in shifting the pipeline by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) and shifting of electricity lines by MESCOM. Almost all the hurdles related to the four lane work have been solved now and the work is being done at a quick pace. He assured that displaced families which have not been given compensation yet will be awarded compensation within 15 days.

Glad to know that Shiradi Ghat will be ready before the monsoons. Unfortunately the so called politician has not said, which years monsoon, monsoon of this year or of next year. The way the work is going on, I do not think, it will be ready by this monsoon. With our bribe taking politicians and officials around, I don't know, how much money will be utilised for the purpose it is meant for.
