Bengaluru, Jan 12: At the meeting of Sangolli Rayanna Brigade held here on Wednesday January 11, Eshwarappa repeatedly spoke about his total dedication to BJP. His address at the preparatory meeting relating to the Brigade's convention proposed to be organized at Koodala Sangama in Bagalkot district on January 26, was interspersed with wry comments about state president of the party, B S Yeddyurappa.
Eshwarappa began his address by thanking Yeddyurappa for suspending BJP leader, Venkatesh Murthy, from the party. He said that with this move, Murthy has been elevated to the level of a state leader from that of city-level leader. Although his address also contained attack against Congress, the main crux appeared to be criticizing Yeddyurappa in a way that was not direct. At the meeting, the Brigade strongly supported the idea of projecting Eshwarappa as the next chief minister of Karnataka.
Eshwarappa said that the Brigade, which is apolitical, is meant to ensure that poor people get justice. He said that individually BJP MLAs are happy about starting this organization and that it will help them in the next election. But they do not openly support the organization because of the fear of Yeddyurappa, he said. He wanted to know from Yeddyurappa why he is opposing the Brigade, adding that the BJP state president is yet to explain his stand on this point.
Saying that the Brigade was set up to bring BJP to power and make Yeddyurappa the chief minister, he felt that Yeddyurappa should have felt happy about it. "It appears that someone has given wrong feedback to Yeddyurappa about the organization.," he commented. About Yeddyurappa's call to hold conventions through party Morchas,he questioned Yeddyurappa as to how can leaders and Swamijis who are not aligned with BJP be expected to take part in such conventions, as it will be purely a party affair.
Eshwarappa expressed deep anguish at the suspension of Venkatesh Murthy. He said he is firm on continuing with the activities of Sangolli Rayanna Brigade.
