Puttur, Jan 13: As the contracting firm, GVR Infra Projects Ltd, to which the work of concreting 13 km of Shiradi ghat stretch of national highway 75 was contracted, has failed to undertake work even after giving several deadlines, the National Highways Authority of India is understood to have dropped the idea of undertaking the work during this year. This decision had to be taken because of fast approaching monsoon season, official said.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of senior officials of the authority held two days ago at Bengaluru.

GVR was expected to begin work on second phase of concreting work here in November 2015. In spite of repeated pressure brought by officials on the company to stock raw materials and complete work on culverts in preparation for road concreting work, the contractors had not shown the inclination to begin wok. The work beginning date was then postponed to November 1, November 25 2016 and January 1 this year with the hope that the contractors would act.

It is said that the officials have taken a decision to recommend to blacklist GVR from Andhra Pradesh, because of its inability to undertake work contracted to it. It is said that some companies to which GVR had given minor works on sub-contract basis may stand to lose, as they have executed some work like repair of culverts and asphalting of a part of the highway.
