Mangaluru, Jan 13: Badminton coach and former international player Mohit Kamath inaugurated ‘Mangala Cup 2017’ a three-day Karnataka and Kerala State Open Badminton Tournament here at U S Mallya Indoor Stadium on Friday, January 13.
The tournament has been organised by Mangala Badminton Club.
Addressing the gathering, Mohit Kamath said, “It is good to see young badminton players throng Mangala Club to play with passion. Badminton is a beautiful sport. It should be played with passion, interest and in the manner of sportsmanship. It also develops your personality. Emerging players should dream to achieve success at the higher level.”
Kamath recalled his initial days as a player and a final match which he played at Mangala Badminton Club in 2007-08. He said that he always wished to return here and play badminton.
“You need to start dreaming right from day one and play with passion, face the challenge and go forward to reach your goal. As a player, you need to believe in coaches as they have some plan for you and have certain road map which will help you to reach your destiny,” he added.
Badminton coach and former international player Sudhakar BN said, “Badminton is a beautiful sport and Premier Badminton League which is in progress has made this sport grow. Players like PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have taken badminton to another level in our nation.”
‘Mangala Cup 2017’ will go on for three days and will be played in three age group categories of 12-14, 15-17 and 18-20 years.
Sadananda Shetty, president, Sri Devi Educational Trust; Ashok Poovaiah, president, Dakshina Kannada Badminton Association; AS Venkatesh, president, Mangala Badminton Club and others were present.
