Mangaluru, Jan 26: The 68th Republic day celebration at Lourdes Central School began at 8.15 AM with a prayer song by the school choir. The guests were received with the guard of honour by the scouts and guides of the school. Fr Stany Pinto asst parish priest, Bejai parish was the guest of honour.
Fr Robert D’Souza, the principal, welcomed the gathering and also added that all Lourdites as citizens of India should uphold the ideologies of the Constitution of India. Manager of the school, Fr Wilson L Vitus D’souza, presided over the function. In his presidential address, he gave a call to every student to contribute to make India a truly free, just and prosperous nation. He also congratulated the organisers of the programme.
Headgirl Sakshi Shetty led the dignitaries to the flag post, and the flag was hoisted by singing the National Anthem followed by patriotic singing by the school choir.
Vice principal Belita Mascarenhas was also present for the programme.
Sonali of class X spoke on the importance of the day in English, and Siddhanth Shukla of class XI explained the significance of the day giving an essence of the national language.
Students of LCS presented a patriotic dance for the song 'Vande Mataram'.
Simran Rodrigues of class XI was the compere, and Sumith M Colaco of class IX proposed the vote of thanks.
