Puttur: Rape accused held after three years

Puttur, Feb 8: Police personnel of Ishwaramangala outpost arrested an accused, who had been evading arrest since the last three years. He has been charged with attempting the rape of a woman about three years back. He was produced in court here on Monday February 6.

The arrested person happens to be Ganesh Naik of Pundikai in Paduvannur village in the taluk.

It is said that Naik had illegally entered the house of a woman in 2014 when she was alone and tried to rape her. Relating to the case, Sampya police had arrested him and produced him in court, after which he was remanded to judicial custody. Ganesh, who secured bail from court thereafter, had remained absent from successive hearings. The court then issued a warrant against him.

The police had information that Ganesh's hideout was somewhere in Kerala. They were also sounded on the likelihood of Ganesh's visit to Ishwaramangala on Monday. Police personnel of Ishwaramangala outpost, in an operation conducted on Monday, arrested Naik. Naik was produced before the judge on Monday night, after which he was sent to judicial custody.
