Bengaluru: Angered at torture of mother, youth stabs father to death

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Feb 15: A youth, who was frustrated at the constant harassment and torture of his mother at the hands of his father, stabbed his father to death. The incident occurred at Rajajinagar D Block in the city at midnight on Monday February 13.

Shivashankar (45), an interior designer by profession, was killed in this case. His son, Revanth, was arrested by Subrahmanyanagara station police personnel on murder charge.

Shivashankar had married Jayalaxmi 20 years back. He had two children, with elder son, Revanth, pursuing B Com degree course in KLE College here. Younger son is in PU class in Sheshadripuram college. Shivashankar, who was a liquor addict, frequently fought with wife, on account of his unending suspicion about her character.

Revanth

On Monday night too, he had come home fully drunk, and started another fight with his wife. The quarrel which started at 10 pm continued till 1 am. Shivashankar reportedly pushed his wife and both the children out of the house, locked himself in, and began to deride them with obscene words. After sometime, he opened the door, and called the children inside.

Enraged at this behaviour, Revanth entered the kitchen, brought out the vegetable cutting knife from there, and stabbed his father's chest with it. Shivashankar collapsed to the ground, duly letting out loud wails. Although he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, the man had died before reaching the hospital, police said.

It is gathered that after Revanth sank the knife into his father's chest, the family was dumbstruck at this sudden development. The family was confused as calling of neighbours would have made the murder incident known to them. Revanth too had developed cold feet by then. Somehow, the family later took Shivashankar to hospital.

Even after reaching the hospital and the doctors declared Shivashankar brought dead, the family tried to mislead the doctors and police personnel by claiming that Shivashankar had accidentally fallen on the knife. The police said that they came to know the truth after taking Revanth into custody and questioning him.

Unfortunate and a mord which was not planned.Again this alcohol ,and a drunken man doesnt understand or not ready to hear any bible, koran or Bhagvadgitha.Parents should always be careful in front of grown up children ,mostly boys not to quarrel ,fight,or be abusive with filthy words. This boy must have been tired of such scenes since his childhood everyday and night for years, fathers drunken stuper, specially beating mother ,with filtha words. And the day came he was not in his senses, when mother and children put out,No child can bear beating mother everyday.Iam sure he has not planned.but with emotionally overhelmed, seeing mothers elend.I find he should be given a second chance and punishment of mild variety. He and family suffered enough under fathers regime.so let him be with mother and brother under bail ,let him study and be help to mother.Forgive him .

A father is too busy working, leaving the wife at home to raise the kids.

Thus kids know only one parent: the mother.

It may be the man's hard work and income that gave the kids and the wife a roof over their head and food and clothing.

But as the kids grow up they are entirely on mother's side. No one is on the man's side.

Unfortunately as the kids grow up, the woman is not very keen on the man! This is the root cause of the problem.

So my advise to all unmarried men: wait until your girlfriend becomes 40 to marry her!

In some families such episodes/incidents are common. But the son should have tried to settle such issues to the concerned authorities to settle such issue, instead he has done a nasty act. It seems he is very eccentric man.

So sad at what has happened. Please forgive the poor child. Forcing the sons to come in, leaving the mother out in the night must have made the older son loose his mental balance momentarily. They were loving children and put up with the fathers nonsense all these years concentrating on their studies. He simply flipped. His mother was not in to stop him from venting his anger at the father. For the sake of the mothers sacrifice and the greater good of the family kindly have mercy on that poor child..

Any addiction (including drinking ) is bad
But then without addiction there is no fun in life
Here father should always build a loving ,caring, friendly relationship with his family members and in return they should give equal affection to the head of the family. Then only we can build a happy home. There is a lovely proverb A family that prays together stays together.

don't worry it is okay if you stab your drunken fathers to death if he tortures your mother, we understand and sympathize with you.

Very sad situation. Who can understand Revanth's state of mind when he stabbed his alcoholic father. Poor boy must have been so upset seeing his mother being tortured continuously by his father after getting drunk day in and day out. Taking his age into account, definitely the law should be lenient in meting out punishment to Revanth.

'Honor your Father and your Mother' who said there is no if's. There is a condition. Do not cause your children to rage. Half knowledge dangerous.
Ephesians 6:4 =Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; instead, bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Here the father got what he deserves.

You most learned TOM CAT please quote the verse which says:

"Kill your father if he provokes you"

    in support of your verdict:

"Here the father got what he deserves."

If you cant find it in the Bible please invent your own Bible.

So horrifying news. Hope that the legal authorities will understand the circumstances that lead the son to murder and will be lenient in giving the verdict.

Please do not create a criminal, counsel him, punish him according to his age and future left ahead of him. He could have been a support to his mother and inspiration to his younger brother. Sad indeed.

Honor just father and mother ? What about wife ? Beat her to unending length ?

What example the children get from father's behaviour ? How can they honor a father of such behaviour ?

    Hi Lydia,

I fully agree with you. People are only talking about Bible quotations on parents. Men please grow up. There is also a Bible quotation under Colossians 3:19 which states:

"Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them."

It is interesting to see the overwhelming support to the son who killed his father on the premise that the father tortured the son's mother irrespective of whether this is in keeping with two of God's Commandments.

It would be interesting to know if any of those supporting the son's action knew precisely why and when the man turned to alcohol and started torturing his wife.

KILLING does not make this world a better place..... it only creates MURDERERS

I have copied a suggestion from one of the commentators:
do not create a criminal, counsel him, punish him according to his age and future left ahead of him. He could have been a support to his mother and inspiration to his younger brother
Why the same could not be applicable to the father?
Do not aggravate his alcoholism, counsel him, treat his alcoholism he could have been a support to his wife and children....

    Antonio D'Silva,

Its said that the couple were married for 20 years. She endured the abuse for this long, haven't you ever met them (or such people) to counsel and change the man ? You are ruing so much when we the younger generation support the son ?

Let it be now, gentleman, than never !

    Lydia Lobo,

It is said that the couple were married for 20 years but nowhere does the article say that he harassed her for 20 years.

Also do you know the family?

Wake up girl ........ if you so wish me to call you so.....

A Father has been murdered by his own son and you here are talking about a younger generation supporting a young son.

Do you know what they call a son who kills his father? a MURDERER and nothing can change this for eternity.

May God help this world when we have such excellent thinkers.... imagine there so much hue and cry when someone shoots a man eating tiger or a leopard but liberated Indian women tell you not to make a fuss when a man murders his drunken father on the pretext of torturing his mother, and this without even knowing the character of the wife.

Remember this murderous man had all the time in the world to plan and execute his father's murder. Agreed the father had thrown them out of the house....but it was the same father who had probably felt some remorse out of love for his family that he opened the door to let them in not knowing that he had ultimately opened the door to his own death. Alas that the son had never been born. Alas for you who sanction and commit so many crimes against humanity in the name of liberation.
