BSF arrests two for smuggling Bangladeshi taka


Kolkata, Feb 20 (IANS): The BSF on Monday seized Bangladeshi currency worth 8 lakh taka and arrested two Indians from West Bengal's Nadia district for allegedly smuggling the money to India, an official said.

Acting on a tip, Border Security Force troopers in Nadia's Chapra outpost conducted a special operation in the border area on Monday morning which led to the arrests.

Abu Suddin Sardar and Sahid Ali Singh were caught Bangladeshi currency worth 8 lakh taka in various denominations was seized from them, Deputy Inspector General R.P.S. Jaiswal said.

"Both the traffickers were handed over to police along with the seized currency," he said in a statement.

According to the officer, the BSF has so far seized Bangladesh taka worth 8.12 lakh in the region and caught four smugglers in 2017.
