Madikeri: Illegal Bangladeshi immigrant arrested

Madikeri, Feb 22: District police who received definite information that Bangladeshi illegal immigrants are arriving to Coorg to work as labourers, have arrested a Bangladeshi illegal immigrant and the one who gave him shelter at Virajpet.

Bangladesh citizen Saharul Islam and Tharif Sheik, resident of Bengal who gave him shelter were arrested. SP P Rajendra Prasad said that the two have been produced in the court.

Virajpet police station inspector Santhosh Kashyap and staff after obtaining definite information went to the place on February 19 at 8 pm and questioned him. Saharul Islam confessed that he is a resident of Asardoha, Gudagiri Thana, Rajasai district, Dhaka state. He said that he has no passport or visa and that he has come to work three times during the last two years.

A case under foreign law 1946 has been slapped on him.

Tarif Sheik, resident of Murshidabad, West Bengal too was with him. Tarif Sheikh was arrested for providing accommodation to Saharul Islam without informing the police.

Virajpet CPI Kumar Aradhya, PSI Santhosh Kashyap, ASI Subramani, Shivappa, staff T M Sabu, HC Sunil, N K Umesh, P P Kaveramma, Rajan, Madhu, Munir and Yogesh participated in the operation.

SP Rajendra Prasad said, “There is a possibility of foreign nationals illegally staying in farms, hotels, home stays, resorts, building constructions and other places. I request people to inform the police if such people are found.”
