Mangaluru, Feb 28: Out of a long line of petty shops that are located by the side of the road leading to Valapete from Thokkottu Junction, three were set on fire by miscreants.  Out of the shops in question, one is owned by a flower vendor named Abubakker, another belongs to Mansur dealing in dry fish, and the third shop dealing in scented sticks is owned by Haneef.

These shops were torched after midnight on Sunday. Some people, who were returning after attending a local programme, saw the fire and tried to extinguish the flames. Later, fire brigade was called.

In the past too, petty shops located at the spot had been torched. Land dispute is said to be the cause of frequent fires at this place.  After an eyewitness said that a drunkard was involved with the Sunday incident, policemen from Ullal station took him into custody for questioning.
