Mangaluru, Mar 1: In a noble cause, Rotary Club of Mangalore, Hill-Side inaugurated a renovated science laboratory and three toilets at the Government Girls High School in Car Street on Wednesday, March 1.
Rotary assistant governors, Vikram Dutta and Vinayak Prabhu unveiled the plaque and inaugurated the science lab and toilets respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Umakanth Naik, president of the club said, "Vinayak Prabhu has been an inspiration for me. Thanks to Damodar Dandakeri who readily agreed to help me for this noble cause. He has been generous and has donated a large amount for this project. Students studying here deserve all facilities as they are the future of our country. The strength of students here is very poor. It is my kind request to all of you present here to get at least five students each from your side. This school provides education free of cost. It should grow as one of the best and shine in the district. I thank this school for giving us an opportunity to help them".
Vikram Dutta lauded the teachers for running the school in a very organised manner. He said, "I am very happy to the school come up so well. Thanks to Rotary and all the donors who have helped in realising this dream. If our country has to develop, our students should be given better facilities to learn. More than 80 per cent of the students in our country do not go for higher studies. There were not many opportunities during our times, but you students are lucky. My request to Rotary is to help the students here in receiving coaching for entrance exams like CET, NEET and others so that they can go for higher studies".
Vinayak Prabhu said, "This is a very wonderful job done by the donors and all those involved in it. A dream has finally come true. We should dream with our eyes open and work towards achieving them. Science increases curiosity in students. I hope this new lab helps them in finding answers to their curiosity by undertaking various experiments".
Corporators Rajendra Kumar and Rameeza Banu expressed their gratitude to main donor Damodar Dandakeri of Yamini Builders and Developers and the Rotary Club for their generosity.
Damodar Dandakeri, Rotarians Umakanth Naik and Vinayak Prabhu were honoured on the occasion. A slide show of the impressive programmes undertaken by Rotary Club in the school were displayed using the new projector in the newly inaugurated science lab 'Kalpana Chawla Science Centre'.
Earlier, Science teacher Lalitha Kalkur welcomed the gathering.
Sujatha Hegde, Interact Club, co-oridnator, compered the programme. Mathematics teacher Anusooya delivered the vote of thanks.
Ranganath Kini, secretary; Rajesh, community service director, headmistress Rajivi K, members of Rotary Club, teachers and students were present.
