Gadchiroli (Maha), Mar 7 (PTI): Suspended Delhi University Professor G N Saibaba and five others were today convicted by a sessions court for their links with the Maoists. Apart from Saibaba, those convicted were Hem Mishra, Prashant Rahi, Mahesh Tirkey, Pandu Narote and Vijay Tirkey.

They have been found guilty under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act dealing with conspiracy, being a member of terrorist gang or organisation and offences relating to support given to a terrorist organization Saibaba is currently out on bail.

Special Public Prosecutor P Sathianathan demanded life sentence for all the six convicts. He also demanded that no reprieve should be given to Saibaba on health grounds, saying that inspite of his disability he had attended several conferences and seminars in India and abroad and allegedlypropagated Maoist ideology.

The defence lawyer did not counter the allegations. Hem Mishra was arrested along with Mahesh Tirkey and Pandu Narote at Aheri in Gadchiroli district in August 2013. Based on the leads provided by them, Prashant Rahi and Vijay Tirkey were then arrested from Deori in Gondia district.

There are no hindus or muslims here.. these people are the supporters of naxals and maoists.. few years back when i was in delhi the people in JNU celebrated and distributed sweets when there was news about the death of 72 CRPF jawans who were killed by naxals in gadchiroli... I witnessed this myself.. if researched then the killings of royal family from nepal can be linked to JNU commies.. All the communists supported China during Indo China war.. thats why Nehru had jailed them.. I don't know why today's government is playing vote bank politics.. JNU is funded by government and i don't want my tax paid money going to these anti nationals..

Convicted by session court only. Now the convicted person can approach High court and thereafter Supreme court. So this process will take another 10 years minimum. So no life sentence.
