Mangalore: Ten-day Handicrafts Expo at Woodlands to Woo Visitors

Mangalore, Mar 3: A 10-day exhibition on Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) will be held at Hotel Woodlands near Bunts Hostel here from Monday March 3 to March 12.    

On display will be products of cottage and village industries from all over south India, according to the information furnished by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) state director K Mohan Raju. As many as 90 stalls have been put up where various products including ayurvedic, handicrafts, leather and garment products will be sold.  

Speaking to press persons here on Sunday March 2, K Mohan Raju informed that the event was being organized to support rural entrepreneurs for marketing their products. The objective of this event is not earn profits but promote the rural industry, he added.  

According to him this was the first state-level exhibition of village industry products in the city, and therefore he solicited the support of people from the region to visit the exhibition in large numbers. Some exhibitors have come from as far as Orissa and West Bengal to participate in this exhibition.  

The products on display include ayurvedic, handicrafts, leather and garments, khadi textiles, herbal products, imitation jewellery, handicrafts and home-made products such as pickles and honey. "There will be discounts on products. Moreover the products on sale are reasonably priced and eco-friendly," informed Mohan Raju.
