Jaitley gets charge of Defence Ministry after Parrikar resigns

New Delhi, Mar 13 (PTI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was today given the additional charge of the Defence Ministry after Manohar Parrikar resigned to take on the new role of Goa Chief Minister.

A Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said that the resignation of Parrikar as the Defence Minister, on advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been accepted with immediate effect.

"Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has directed that Arun Jaitely, Cabinet Minister, shall be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Defence, in addition to his existing portfolios," the communique said.

Parrikar submitted his resignation after BJP staked claim to form an alliance government in Goa.

He will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Goa tomorrow heading the BJP-led ministry which has the support of regional outfits and Independents.

This is the second time that Jaitley is holding the additional portfolio of Defence Ministry during the present NDA government.

He was incharge of the ministry earlier from May 26 to November 9 in 2014.

Under Finance minister Jaitley India has seen the worst of man made disaster namely 'demonetisation'.

BJP has failed worst during Defence Minister George Fernandes tenure and Kargil coffin scam and fake bravery awards in still in memories.

When it comes to caliber BJP does not even match former defence and finance minister Chidambaram.

A lawyer can only prove lies as truth and truth as lies. He is only good for newshour debate in paid media cells of BJP.

Even school childrens have performance oriented results. When it comes to BJP since three years only 'mann ki baat'.

This is the best decision by the govt. Mr. Parrikar was a useless Defence Ministry, and putting him back to Goa was a excellent move, because he was a great CM, and everyone liked him, but he did a lousy job as defence minister with his big mouth has embarassed the govt. on many occasions, hope Goa gets its due development,

Have patience! It is customary to give additional portfolio to another senior person as temporary arrangement tiil new minister has been appointed.
It is highly believed that Francis Dsouza, who was Deputy CM in earlier BJP government will vacate is Mapusa seat to accommodate Manohar Parikkar to win assembly by-poll, who in-turn might get a Rajya Sabha MP post and even a central minstership!
We are sure that Modi will find a suitable person for Defense ministry.
