Mangalore, Mar 6: Police are yet to get any clues about the persons who murdered Thokkottu rickshaw driver Lancy D'Souza at Sevanthigudda near Permannur near here on Wednesday March 5. Since the motive behind this gruesome murder is not unearthed, it has become difficult to reach to the murderers.

Sources have said that murder might have taken after 10 pm on Tuesday March 4.  However, murder came to light only on Wednesday morning when a local found a damaged autorickshaw on the middle of Gandi road near Sevanthigudda.  When he went near the rickshaw, he found Lancy lying in the pool of blood.  His head had been smashed with a huge stone.

As reported earlier Lancy had maintained a good relationship with all.  He had no problem whatsoever with anyone one.  He was living with mother, wife and two and half year old child at Nithyadharnagar. His brother is working abroad while his father had died several years ago.

Some sources said that there were some misunderstanding between one Ashok D'Souza and Lancy over certain issues.  But these problems had been settled in the police station.  There are likely chances that he might have become the victim of some family or personal rivalry, said police.

Lancy's wife Prameela is a lab technician in a city hospital.  Every night he used to go home after 10 pm.  On Tuesday, he was watching India-Australia cricket match on TV at home and after the match he had been to rickshaw stand.  But he did not go home in the night.  When Prameela told her brother about this, he came to Thokkottu rickshaw stand on Wednesday morning where he came to know about the murder.

Ullal police led by inspector Jayanth Shetty are investigating the case.

Intolerance, materialized world coupled with population explosion in a city that boasts rapid growth of which many are not part of can be a problem in future. Although at the outset one might not find any connection between this and murder of Mr.Lancy, there are many people in Mangalore who are frustrated with the idea that they are not part of the growth and that may make people to vent thier frustration by taking extreme steps to settle whatever petty issues they have with someone.

Although the pattern is very similar to most growing cities around the world, is there someway we could learn from other's mistakes than learn the hard way? Whether police succeed in cracking the case or not, Mr. Lancy has lost his life. I hope our learned elders in the city will do something to see that such things stop occuring.

Being in the north one can think of coming across similar incidents taking place. But unimaginable to hear somthing of the sort, that too in Mangalore. My nun sister at Ranipura convent who often travelled in Lancy's auto for shopping purpose told me this morning about gruesome murder. My heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved mother, wife and child. May his soul rest in peace. But what about the culprits........?
