23 universities, 279 technical institutes in India are fake – Delhi, UP lead the pack


New Delhi, Mar 21 (Zee News): The University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has prepared a list of fake universities functioning in India.

Out of the 23 fake universities operating in India without UGC permit, Uttar Pradesh has nine unrecognised universities and Delhi has seven.

Delhi also has the highest number of fake colleges (66) offering engineering and other technical courses.

Across India, there are 279 such technical institutes (primarily in Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Maharasthra) which do not have authority to confer degrees.

In September 2016 also, the UGC had released a list of such fake universities which included Maithili University/Vishwavidyalaya, Darbhanga (Bihar); Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi (UP); Commercial University Ltd Daryaganj (New Delhi); United Nations University, Delhi; Vocational University, Delhi; St. John’s University, Kishanattam, Kerala; Raja Arabic University, Nagpur, Maharashtra; Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkatta; Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University (Open University), Achaltal, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh; North Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology, Odisha.

Students are being cautioned not to take admission in such unapproved institutions.
