Puttur, Mar 8: A fire broke out in a transformer at Haleneranki near Uppinangady on Saturday March 8 afternoon due to a short circuit, which later spread across a rubber plantatiion causing huge losses.

The 30-acre rubber plantation belongs to Puttur's Master Plannery, it is learnt.

Though the fire brigade personnel from Puttur tried their best to control the fire, they could not do so for a long time.

The amount of loss is not known as yet.

Co-incidentally, a similar type of fire broke out near Hirebandari, also near Puttur, at 3 pm on March 8 causing loss to the tune of approximately Rs 50,000.

Bamboo trees passing across the electricity cables, caused the fire, which in turn spread to the house of a local resident Sundara Gowda, destroying it. About 4-5 thick bamboo bushes were also burnt.
