Mangaluru, Apr 3: A person confined in the district prison here tried to flee like Jinnappa Parava did sometime back, through the main door of the district prison here. In an information that came into the open with inordinate delay, it is learnt that he would have succeeded in his plan, but for an alert home guard.

An under-trial prisoner went out of the jail on Thursday morning from his cell, without getting noticed by the jailer and police personnel. At the main gate, a woman home guard volunteer was on duty. She questioned the man on the basis of suspicion. He tried to get out by claiming that he was to attend court hearing. She immediately closed the main door. Persistent questioning brought out the truth.

The security personnel, who were alerted later, escorted him into his cell thereafter. This incident has followed several incidents of gang fights, murder, escape, finding of cellphones drugs etc in the prison which have brought the Dakshina Kannada district prison in limelight often.
