Muscat, Apr 12: The Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (MCCP) in association with Goan Community Oman (GCO) organized a Spiritual Day at Sts Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi on March 31. During this Lenten season, the members had an opportunity to receive and to acknowledge the Lord’s abundant blessings by spending some time in the presence of the Lord.

The day with the Lord, a spiritual journey began with a reflection on the Stations of the Cross at 7.15 am. This was followed by a talk by Fr Marian Miranda, emphasizing on how to lead a good Christian life, sacrifice and repentance. The talk highlighted the Catholic faith and a closer relationship with God. Fr Marian is the spiritual director of MCCP. The talk was followed by a session of praise and worship conducted by Sr Maria. Spiritual reflection and a slide presentation was presented by Melita Alva, general secretary of MCCP.

As part of the Lenten preparation, priests were available for confessions in English and Konkani. With the adoration of the Holy Sacrament, the faithful exercised devotion through prayers, spiritual reflections and praise and worship. It was organised by Naveen Mascarenhas, spiritual secretary of MCCP in co-ordination with Helen Lobo, Asha Noronha, Philomena Saldanha and Wilson Lobo from the Mangalurean community. A short movie on Lent and Passion of Christ compiled by Lavina D’Sa, vice president– spiritual, cultural and community services and Sachin Lobo, secretary for community services was shown. The entire spiritual journey concluded with a Konkani Mass celebrated by Fr Marian Miranda.

Lunch was served to all who attended. It was indeed a very enriching spiritual session and an event to rejuvenate the Christian faith.

MCCP headed by Dilip Correa as the president of the current year and Goan community under the leadership of Savio Carvalho and Gayle Arajuo made a sincere effort in bringing together the Konkani community in Muscat under one roof for this spiritual devotion.

    Excellent job by MCCP.
But the people who usually sit in front row at MCCP functions are missing.

Enjoying the worship services, particularly during the Holy Week, with help of an Indian priest, in the presence of a fairly large congregation at the Ruwi Church in Muscat is certainly a privilege for hundreds of Indians who have come a long way in pursuit of their career goals with different professional backgrounds. When an article such as this is published with varied photographs of the people present is certainly a gift of satisfaction for all their family members scattered in India to realize that their family is in good hands and enjoying all the privileges that are made available to them under the kind patronage of the host country. Having lived in Saudi Arabia for more than two decades, this is certainly a good privilege that we should be thankful for.

Let us continue to enjoy all the privileges granted to us by the host country, and let us remain grateful to so many noble leaders that are generous in enabling our community to enjoy the Holy Week rituals with all the freedom made available. What else can we ask, and what else do we need during this Holy Week than being able to organize such a fine gathering and be prepared for the Holy Feast of Easter. We have some of the fond members of Oman becaue we were closely acquainted with thousands of Omani labor force that came to Saudi Arabia and gave us some of the best and loyal services more than three decades. We shall always remember them in our thoughts and prayers.
