Mangaluru: Man repairing borewell gets electrocuted

Mangaluru, Apr 15: A resident of Konaje Adkarepadpu here, identified as Usman (20), was electrocuted on the night of Thursday April 13 when repairing the motor of a borewell that was not working. His death occurred when the pipe he was removing from the borewell came in contact with a high tension power line passing above.

The borewell in question belongs to Kotekar town panchayat. A local named Khaleel was awarded the contract for repairing this borewell. Six persons including Khaleel, Usman, and Shariff were working on this borewell. The workers had removed four pipes from the borewell. When the fifth pipe was being pulled out, it touched the high tension cable passing nearby, resulting in Usman's instant death. Shariff escaped with minor burn injuries.

Usman, who was the only son of Hasainar from Konaje Adkarepadpu, was working as a coolie after studying till the ninth standard. He was a hard working individual besides being an able sportsperson. He is survived by parents and a sister.

A case about the incident was registered at Ullal police station.
