Udupi, Apr 15: A part of the consignment of tyres was stolen when the truck was parked by the side of national highway near here.

A consignment of 230 MRF tyres had been sent by MRF tyres factory in Goa through a container belonging to Mahaveer Transport. The container truck, which left MRF factory at Usgaon in Goa with 230 tyres, tubes and flaps on April 9, had left from there at 9.30 am on April 10. After filling diesel into the container's tank at Ponda, Goa, its driver, Basavaraj, had reached Nittur near here on the night of April 10. He had parked the container by the roadside, had food and slept. When he got up at 5 am on April 11, he found that a part of the consignment had been stolen.

Company manager, Syed Yasdani Pasha, said that the stolen tyres,  tubes and flaps have been valued at Rs 4.79 lac. Last three rows of the tyres stacked inside the container have gone missing. It is guessed that thieves would have broken the lock of the container between the time it was loaded and 5 am on April 11. The personnel of the town station here, who have registered a case, are investigating.
