Training camp in Europe for Indian mountaineers


Mumbai, April 21 (IANS): With an eye to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where sport climbing has made it to the quadrennial games, an Indian mountaineering club is set to give hopefuls in the field a comprehensive training camp in Europe, beginning on April 25.

Girivihar, one of India's oldest mountaineering clubs (a not-for profit trust), based out of the city, along with Meraki Sport and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. have put together a sport development plan Vision 2020.

As part of the programme for sport climbing, eight athletes will undergo a comprehensive training camp in Europe, beginning on April 25. 

The 21-day programme curated by Abhijit Burman, Chairman of the World Cup Organising Committee along with IFSC's (International Federation for Sport Climbing) sport development team, will include both training and competing at promotional events in Italy and Slovenia.
