Barkha Singh joins BJP

New Delhi, April 22 (IANS): A day after she was expelled from the Congress, Barkha Shukla Singh joined the BJP on Saturday.

Singh, a former Chief of the Delhi Commission for Women, joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of its national Vice President and Delhi in-charge Shyam Jaju on Saturday afternoon. Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Vijay Goel was also present.

"I have joined BJP to work on ground," Singh told IANS.

Appreciating the work being done by the BJP government, she said: "BJP is doing good work. It is doing what the Congress use to do earlier.

"Ideology of Congress is dead... when I was the chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW),I use to meet Muslim women who were suffering due to Triple Talaq. When I questioned Triple Talaq, my party (Congress) asked me to leave this issue. (Prime Minister Narendra) Modiji is working on it."

"I wrote a letter to Modi on this issue after he became the Prime Minister," she added.

Singh was expelled from the Congress on Friday for anti-party activities.

On Thursday, she resigned from all party posts including as chief of the Delhi unit's womens' wing, raising questions over the leadership of Vice President Rahul Gandhi, who she termed "unfit to lead the party" and Delhi unit chief Ajay Maken.
