Army major's wife found hanging, husband booked over dowry harassment

Hyderabad, Apr 25 (PTI): An army Majors wife was found hanging at their official quarters located under Bolarum police station limits here, police said today.

The deceased, Sandhya Singh, who was a radio jockey, was found hanging on Thursday, police said.

"Her husband Major Vaibhav Vishal is currently working in 54th Infantry Division here. The deceased was working as a radio jockey," Deputy Commissioner of Police B Sumathi said.

According to the police official, it was a love marriage and the deceased belonged to Scheduled Castes (SC) community from Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, based on the information provided by her husband, a case of suicide had been registered.

However, the family members of the deceased alleged that her husband had been harassing her for dowry. Following this, the army Major was booked under section 304 (b) (dowry death), and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at Bolarum police station, police said.

"We wrote a letter to the Army officials seeking his custody. As per the communication, we received from them that he (Major Vishal) is in ICU of an army hospital due to health problems. The army assured us that he will be handed over to us as soon as he will be fine medically," Sumathi said.

    If a married woman commits suicide immediately parents register dowry complaints. iF thats the case they should not wait till she commits suicide. Parents also should be booked for showing negligence to genuine complaints resulting in death.The matter should be investigated properly and if the Major is guilty, he should be stripped off his duties and sent to prison.

    Dowry related deaths - one of the reasons that I am not proud of my country. Still, should I stand for the national anthem?

    I tlooks very mysterious.But one thing is sure,it was a love marraige,so I feel she dint commit suecide of her own.A dowry harassment ?also not sure.More suspicious is her husband is in ICU?Can someone this explain?Or he himself got admitted in ICU,because of her suecide was detected?Mystery over mystery.May her soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family,specially her parents lost their child too early,whatever the cause can be.These days such early suecides are increasing specially from young women.

    @Abdul R.Uchila,dont under estimate Army officials.Just because they are undergoing a hard,tough time in Army,navy or otherone.Hrd training,sometimes hard work,etc.makes them unwillingly a tough men.Sometimes they become mentally sick and it shows at their house on their family..I am not saying all.but many times who are having heavy,responsible jobs,at border,etc are going through a tough time.I dont say he is a accused one.but he comes most probably very suspect.whatever it is he should comeout from his hide,and go to police if he is really not to do anything with this case.
