Kundapur, May 2: The marriage of a couple belonging to different religions with strong affection between them for the last two years, was conducted under the aegis of Mahila Santwana Kendra on Kundapur College Road on Tuesday, May 2.

Vivek aged 24 and Salma aged 22 both from Kumbhashi Vinayak Nagar had a deep affection for each other for the past two years. Upon knowing this, the girl's family opposed this proposal. The religious leaders warned Salma that she will be kept out from Jamat if she gets married to the boy from a different religion. People in the house of Vivek too were against their marriage.

Vivek is the only son to his parents. Vivek had said that he will commit suicide if they do not consent to the marriage. Therefore, the parents agreed to the marriage subsequently.

The girl's family however, did not consent to this. The couple therefore visited Santwana Kendra in February and requested to get them married. Radhadas, president of Santwana Kendra said that he would first try to convince both the parties and resort to legal marriage only if the parties do not consent.

Though the boy's people gave a green signal, the girl's side did not agree and so a simple marriage was agreed upon.

The wedding was held at Santwana Kendra on Tuesday afternoon per Hindu custom. Garlands were exchanged, besides Mangalya and Arati.

Both of them are employed. The groom's father Babu, mother Sharada, elder sister, brother-in-law and staff of Santwana Kendra were present on the occasion.
