Drug lord arrested in Mexico

Mexico City, May 3 (IANS): Damaso Lopez Nunez, a leader of an international drug trafficking cartel, has been arrested in Mexico city, the country's prosecutor-general (PGR) said.

PGR's head of criminal investigation Omar Hamid on Tuesday said Nunez was captured at a residential building, Xinhua news agency reported.

The operation took place without any violence, Hamid said.

Nunez works for Sinaloa cartel -- a drug trafficking, money laundering and organised crime syndicate and is believed to be a likely successor to Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to head the cartel after he was extradited to the US in January.
