Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, May 7: A boy rescued a hen from a well on Saturday, May 7 at an undisclosed location here. It looks like a brave act. But the boy had to do it risking his life. Sadly he saved the hen after his family asked him to do so.

As per details gathered, a hen fell into a well in disuse. Nearby residents gathered in minutes after they heard about the incident. This boy was coaxed by his family and others to help rescue the fowl. The boy succeeded in the mission of bringing the hen from the well. Someone made a video of the act and circulated in WhatsApp. The 2.22 minutes video which went viral has attracted widespread criticism.

As per the video clip, the boy is made to sit in a bucket and a rope is tied to him and the bucket. The bucket is then let down into the well. The boy came out of the bucket, caught hold of the fowl and sat back in the bucket. Then the bucket was pulled out of the well.

In my childhood days there was no internet, no smartphone, no whatsapp. There were more adventurous videos that could have gone viral.

People gave more importance to a hen than their child.Even today many boast of their adventures acts during their childhood, still it is very riskant.how many times such acts had been gone in vain.either rope broke of weight or old rope,,and most important, the depth of well. For a boy it can happen that he becomes unconcious ,breathlessness.Instead it was enough to let down a basket or bucket with some corn.It would come certainly up.Please dont do t again with children.many become fear.and fall unconcious when too deep in well.God helped this boy.Next time send some adult ,or firefighter ,but not for a hen to save.

Initially I thought elders in the video should be charged for putting the boys life into danger. Even the well is without boundary wall. Later i thought the brave boy should be sent to sainik school and later into army. I really appreciate the confidence of parents.

Same thing happened in my place few years ago. A cat from our neighboring house had fallen into their well –not sure after how many days they noticed it .Realizing this people gathered and started to discuss on how to get the cat out from the well
Some people warned not to send anyone as the stranded cat was more dangerous than any other animal. Then one old lady came forwards and advised to put some dry mackerel inside a deep basket and lower it inside the well .Result, the hungry cat jumped inside the basket within a second and she was successfully pulled out from the well

They wanted to make chicken curry, but what else they can do since the hen rushed to the well to save itself. Alas at last it it was not able to escape. Well is not so deep and they have taken enough precautions.

Guys I have saw that video, there is nothing serious or nonsense in that. Boy was tied well. Then that well was like dry ground. It was not a big well. Boy was around 12 to 14 years. There was nothing his life was risked. Even at that age boys go wheeling in bikes which is more risky, boys go swimming at beaches it's more risky until n unless proper safety is used.

Utterly senseless and reckless from the parents of this child... if it was in Europe the child would have been taken away by the social services and parents prosecuted for putting the life of a child in severe danger... why could not the adults themselves get into the well? Playing with the little life for the sake of a hen... Shame on you guys

I saw this video too! Few decades back our childhood was full of these kind of adventure, during summer holidays it was at peak! Now children are doing more risky acts on games screens only! I guess this boy is going to be fearless like a bungee jumper at young age! I'm not here to judge the act of boy is right or wrong, I feel he is courageous!

A bold act from the boy. A confidence the parents have and the support executed in the total execution. These children are tomorrow's future n not those with mobile in hand n with thick spectacle glasses in front of TV.

Actually when we were young more than this adventures we did specially during summer holidays. Draining the wells, ponds and catching fish, how many times pulled our rat snake. Climbing huge trees to pluck fruits. Fallen and broken bones also. Every one is swimmer, crossing deep rivers holding the tail of a Cow that is really scary if i think now, if not drowning from Gou Rakshaks for misusing cow. Comparatively this boy did is nothing in a dry well. Yes today we think on safely and it looks dangerous. In India such jugads are common.

Disused wells are normally not that deep as it gets filled up gradually due to people throwing unwanted stuff and mud. Here children dive to the bottom of 8 ft deep pool when they are just 5. Although it's not a good idea to send small boy to the bottom of the well just for the sake of hen, but since others are around it's not that risky. I hope they had taken care about the thickness and quality of the rope and the bucket.

The young boy saved the hen which had fallen in that unused well at the risk of his life. There could have been the poisonous gas at the bottom of the well.

    Shankar,Mangaluru,
You should know better. Sometimes, gas forms inside unused wells. There have been many deaths of people who have gone to clean up unused wells as poisonous gas had been formed.
