Mangaluru: Fight among inmates near visitors’ gallery at sub-jail, one injured

Mangaluru, May 9: As a result of fight that took place among inmates among inmates of the district sub-jail near newly opened visitors’ gallery, one was injured. The incident took place on Monday, May 8 evening.

Pratap Rai from Puttur, an undertrial, is the person injured.

Mohammed, Nasir Althaf and Bombay Faizal are the persons who have been accused of injuring Pratap Rai.

Inmates from A and B wings of the sub-jail were sent together to the visitors’ gallery to meet their relatives and friends. When the inmates from these two wings came to the gallery from opposite sides, some arguments took place between them. At this time three inmates attacked Pratap Rai with interlock and stones. Pratap who sustained injuries on his head was taken immediately to Wenlcok hospital for treatment and then he was brought back to sub-jail.

There were regular fights in the A wing for the past few days , it is gathered.

A court order had directed the sub-jail authorities to shift Bombay Faizal to Bengaluru a month back. But he has not been shifted so far. He is one among the attackers of Pratap Rai.

Rai was arrested through a warrant recently relating to a crime that took place at Moodbidri.

The attacking incident has been captured in CCTV , sub-jail sources said.

A case stands registered at Barke police station.

    Such fighting and attacking instances occur so many times in Mangalore Jail. Jail Officials do something to stop such cases. Better shift notorious criminals to some other jails.
