Addis Ababa, May 11 (IANS): The Ethiopian Federal High Court has convicted 23 individuals of terror offences spanning a 10-year period from 2004-2014.
According to a report on Wednesday by media outlet Radio Fana, the defendants were accused of trying to mobilise the public to agitate for a government based on Sharia law as well as advocating refusal to pay taxes to the central government, Xinhua reported.
The chargesheet said the convicts had formed armed cells and engaged in robbery and murders in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, Oromia region and Southern region of the country.
The Federal High court has adjourned the case for sentencing of the convicts for May 16.
