CBI raids Chidambaram's residences in Tamil Nadu

Updated

Chennai/New Delhi, May 16 (IANS): The CBI on Tuesday raided the residences of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram here in Tamil Nadu in connection with criminal misconduct in the grant of FIPB approvals.

The early morning raids at the former Finance and Home Minister's residence were conducted in connection with Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearances given to INX Media (now called 9X Media) when it was run by Peter and Indrani Mukherjea, and Chidambaram was then the Finance Minister.

Separate Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) teams conducted searches at more than ten places in Tamil Nadu, besides carrying out over a dozen raids in Delhi, Mumbai and Haryana's Gurugram.

The agency's move comes a day after it filed an FIR against Karti Chidambaram and Indrani Mukherjea in the case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been probing the involvement of Karti Chidambaram's company for alleged foreign exchange violations.

The case -- registered under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in 2010 -- involves foreign investment by three Mauritius-based companies in INX Media.

The ED had earlier issued a show-cause notice to Karti Chidambaram and INX Media for alleged FEMA violations of over Rs 40 crore.

The ED also issued a similar notice to a Chennai-based firm, Vasan Health Care Private Limited, for alleged forex violations of over Rs 2,000 crore.

"The total amount of contravention identified on different counts and found to have been committed by Advantage Strategic Consulting Private Limited in the sale transaction of shares of Vasan Health Care to overseas investors is around Rs 45 crore," the ED notice said.

"Show-cause notice has been issued to Advantage Strategic Consulting Private Limited, its directors and also to Karti Chidambaram who appears to be the controller and ultimate beneficiary in these transactions," it added.

In past one decade there are thousands of raids all with allegation of corruption. CBI has not been able to close even one single case.

In the past 03years of Modi Govt., there were quite a number of raids and cases. People expected quick results, as BJP always had clinching evidences when in opposition. With a adversary Modi in power, all cases of corruption against UPA should have proven and guilty should have punished. There is not even a proper case filed against UPA. This proves either UPA was clean and not corrupt OR Modi has failed miserably.

There can not be any political party with a million above followers without any corruption or greed for power. UPA had taint of mega scams. If a adversary like Modi, with a vengeance against UPA, can not find any single evidence to prove the claims. Therefore, it proves that honest Dr. MMS, has paid a price for his honesty and taking the country to a progressive path. It happens often with good people.

Every corrupt citizen and politician irrespective of their party affiliations should be thoroughly investigated and punished. If AAP come to power, they will seep corruption and clean the country. No other party will do it. They will only raid their opponents and save their corrupt people.

The Supreme Court rejected a plea for a SIT probe into the Sahara-Birla diaries. The apex court said the documents placed by lawyer Prashant Bhushan in the case aren't credible enough to direct a probe against the Prime Minister and others.

I welcome this move and hope the father son duo who are said to be extremely corrupt are consigned to the jail. Any public person whichever party he belongs to, if found guilty, should be dealt with very sternly. These people come to power in the name of serving the public and loot the nation. This should never be tolerated. So whether it is Chidambaram or Yeddyurappa, the law should be the same. Their place is in the jail. They have enjoyed the loaves and fishes of office, let them now taste the jail food.
