Six held for Mathura double murder

Mathura, May 20 (IANS): Five days after the murder of two bullion traders here, police on Saturday claimed to have arrested six suspects after a fierce gun battle.

The suspects -- Aditya, Ranga, Neeraj, Cheeni, Ayush and Chotu -- have sustained bullet injuries and are undergoing treatment, an official said.

Police said they raided a dilapidated house in Chaubariya locality early on Saturday. When they tried to break in, the criminals fired at them, triggering a gun battle.

An official said the gold robbed after the killings had been recovered.

Senior Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Mishra said CCTV footage provided vital clues in the case.

After the Mathura killings, the opposition slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for failing to maintain law and order in the state.

Angry bullion traders had downed shutters in Mathura and elsewhere in the state and threatened to go on a nationwide strike if the criminals were not arrested.
