Mangalore, Apr 6: Wholesale traders of agriculture produce were warned here on Saturday April 5, to either shift their wares to APMC yard in Bykampady at the earliest or vacate the same with immediate effect.

In this context K Krishnaraja Hegde, president of the APMC sounding a note of warning said "The Bykampady yard is a licensed yard and to sell agricultural produce outside this yard will tantamont to violation of the rules and directives of the government."

Furthermore, while speaking to media persons here he even warned that ignoring or not considering his words seriously will attract sterner action against traders by the authorities.

GG Mohandas Prabhu of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) said he will take the fight forward against the words uttered by the APMC chief. The meeting brought to the forefront the dichotomy and divergence of opinion between the APMC and traders.

Traders declared that the APMC yard may not be an informed choice as their relationship with Bunder area dates back to the British period and non agriculture produce such as edible oil and sugar are not allowed inside the yard, while APMC members on their part assert that it is in-fact a farmer friendly yard.
