Margoa: Shigmotsav Troupes Clash - 18 Injured

Margao, Apr 7: 18 youths were severely injured and were admitted in the hospital, after the two shigmotsav troupes on Sunday clashed on the hilltop, in the wee hours at Canacona, 36 km away from here, over the patty issue of prize distribution.

Canacona police have registered the case of unlawful assembly and rioting, and fourteen people have been booked, in this connection.

According to locals of Canacona, the celebration went on smoothly till the end, but while returning home some members of Dongari shigmotsav troupe assaulted the Sanguem Paikdev Shigmotsav troupe and damaged their vehicle too.

It is learnt that Dongri shigmotsav members were decisively to attack on Bori Sigmotsav, with whom they had previous enmity over prize distribution, but mistook the Sanguem troupe and assaulted them.

Police sources told that tempo damaged in the clashes have been attached.

Deepak Mapari, Siddhesh Mapari, Sushant Korgaonkar, Pritam Naik, Suraj Naik, Nitin Naik, Satyavan Mapari, Darshan Naik and Sudesh Naik, are among those severely injured. They are recuperating in the hospital.

Meanwhile Sanguem locals carried a morcha at police station and demanded the arrest of those attacked on their troupe. 

The Canacona Police are investigating the case further.
