Mangaluru, Jun 3: Monsoon arrived in the coastal districts on Friday, June 3 marking the beginning of rainy season.

It poured from morning to the evening without any break in city. Fewer people were spotted on roads during the evening. Though pre-monsoon showers were seen on two days before the arrival of Monsoon, the rains on Friday were heavier. People who did not expect the sudden rains, suffered as they did not carry raincoats or umbrellas. Bike riders were the most affected with slippery roads.

Many parts of the city have been dug for repairs. Warning signs are not put as MCC has not taken these issues seriously. Hence few vehicles like cars, rickshaws and bikes were seen trapped in many places. An auto rickshaw was trapped in a ditch near Nanthoor.

Kinnigoli and Kateel received good rains. Beltangady, Suratkal, Mulky, Puttur, Manipal, Shirva, Belman, Brahmavar, Padubidri, Kaup, Hebri, Haleyangady, Mukka received moderate trains. Sullia and Moodbidri saw light rains.

City experienced heavy traffic jam in the evening due to rains.

Farmers are happy this year as the Monsoon arrived earlier than anticipated. They said agriculture in the region is expected to produce better crop this year which in turn will boost the local economy.
