Mangaluru, Jun 3: On the basis of communications received from the police from the city seeking identities of certain persons who had made blasphemous comments about the presiding deity of Kateel Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple in Facebook, legal adviser of Facebook company, Shoaib, visited the city on Friday June 2. He met the city police commissioner and other officials and discussed the issue with them.

Shoaib obtained details required by him from police commissioner, Chandra Sekhar. He also held discussions in the matter with police inspector of Bunder station, Shantaram.

The police officials explained to the officer about the content in the Facebook that was in bad taste, and resultant protests, unrest, and problems faced in the district because of these comments. The police have demanded suitable records from the Facebook to enable them to find out the culprits and take legal steps against them. They had earlier warned Facebook of legally proceeding in the matter of obtaining details from the company, as it had ignored earlier requests from the police in the matter.

Police officials said that the visiting official promised them to make honest efforts towards providing details about the people who made the remarks which had fomented trouble in the district.
