New Delhi: Minors injured in firing


New Delhi, June 4 (IANS): A minor boy and girl, playing on the street, were injured on Saturday as two to three unidentified armed assailants fired on somebody's house, police said.

Police said the incident occurred at around 4 p.m when two to three armed assailants open fired near Khalid Qureshi's house located in Shastri Park area of east Delhi.

The victims identified as Zakiya Khatun, 8, and Vikas, 12, who were playing, suffered bullets injuries on their legs and have been admitted to Jag Pravesh Chand hospital.

The assailants managed to escape from the spot, police said.

Qureshi said the accused came to eliminate him as he had raised his voice against the illegal construction being done by some builders in the locality. He had made many complaints against some builders to the civic agencies and police.

"We are investigating the case and are examining the CCTV footage to identify the accused persons," a senior police officer told IANS.
